END IT NOW: Understanding & Preventing Child Abuse
Alternate Version: Preventing Child Abuse in Religious Communities
Trailer: END IT NOW
Every day, clinicians from Loma Linda University Children's Hospital examine kids who have injuries that may indicate abuse. The sheer number of children coming through their doors motivated these nurses and child psychologists to commission a video that would explore the issue of child abuse -- and how to stop it.
"For some time now I have felt a calling to look at the problem of abuse and domestic violence," says Mary Jo Vollmer-Sandholm, a forensic pediatric nurse practitioner at Loma Linda University Health. "I have seen many patients who have been hurt, many of them from my own community." The statistics are staggering, with one in four girls -- and one in six boys -- being molested by the age of 18.
"End It Now" gives us an inside lookout this silent killer and the dramatic effect it has on a person's life as they mature into adulthood. It shows audiences how to respond if they witness abuse, or if they're experiencing it themselves.
As the dedicated professionals at Loma Linda continue to work with abuse victims every day, they point to the important role we all play in raising awareness, speaking out, and taking action when we witness abuse happening. And they carry on faith and hope that we can indeed look this problem in the face, and end it.
