About the Author:

Karen Jean Matsko Hood has always loved children and enjoyed reading. It was only natural that she would eventually have a passion for writing children's fiction books. Her writing presents a unique combination of different themes and poetic formats. Hood is masterful at weaving a story to capture a child's imagination and hopes to inspire their interest in reading.

Hood bases her books upon her family interests and her own life experiences, and she writes about topics that children will enjoy. Her first successful children's novel is Lost Medal, in which she incorporates her love of the stately Icelandic horses with her love for children. Hood also writes about personal and spiritual themes on a level that children can understand. She is working to complete two more children's novels. She has completed two soothing bedtime stories for children called Goodnight, I Wish You Goodnight, and Angels, Angels Way Up High, and is currently working to complete additional picture books that include Petting Farm Fun, Meet Cocoa the Rottweiler, and Grandma's Poppy Seeds.

Karen Jean Matsko Hood began writing as a shy author, but has now developed a voice all her own.  Her writing exhibits a unique story as well as a voice of empathy and purpose. Hood's writing is strong-minded. She is a meticulous wordsmith and combines stories with compassion. Hood has always loved children and her life is devoted to their needs. With this passion, she channels her efforts to include children's books and poetry. Hood writes both fiction and nonfiction children's books.

Hood was born and raised in Great Falls, Montana and now resides in Greenacres, Washington, along with her husband, many of her sixteen children, and foster children. Her interests include writing, research, and teaching. She previously has volunteered as a court advocate in the Spokane juvenile court system for abused and neglected children. Hood is a literary advocate for youth and adults.
