Daniel Torres is the most prominent Spanish comic artist of his generation. His work, which includes graphic novels and children?s books, has been published all over the world and translated into a number of different languages. Daniel Torres began his career as a comics artist in 1980, after graduating from the Valencia School of Fine Arts. His first comic Claudio Cueco, was published by the underground magazine El Vibora. In 1982, he launched a new series, Rocco Vargas, a graphically drawn space-opera featuring an inter-galactic adventurer/sci-fi writer as its title character. This popular series was published by Norma Editorial, with an English translation released in the United States in 1984. Norma Editorial went on to publish all of the artist?s subsequent work, most notably the graphic novels Opium, Rocco Vargas and Saxon. In addition to his comic series, Torres has also undertaken a variety of commercial art projects. This includes re-designing Norma?s corporate logo, and creating a mural commissioned by the Barcelona City Council to illustrate the Barcelona of the Future, as well as illustration work for American publishers like Penguin, Bantam, Dell, Playboy, Premier Magazine, and New York Weekly.
