When aliens land on Chorkle’s home on Gelo, the asteroid’s residents must find a way to drive off these “human” invaders, or risk the discovery of the Xotonian civilization. In a mad attempt of rogue diplomacy, Chorkle boards the alien spacecraft, accidentally sabotaging the Xotonians’ human-expulsion plan. Saddled with the inadvertent betrayal of his people, and the lives of four humans, Chorkle must figure out a way to put things right. O’Donnell hilariously turns the idea of alien invasion on its head with Chorkle’s laugh-out-loud mishaps and observations of these curious “head-fur”-sporting aliens. His role as well-meaning misfit makes Chorkle a sympathetic character that readers will readily embrace. Xotonian vocabulary is liberally used, but always with context clues so readers won’t be left scratching their furred heads. This is a lighthearted adventure in the spirit of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy that will leave readers craving for astronaut ice cream or, perhaps, some deep-fried cave slugs. Grades 3-6. --Julia Smith
