Time is like a river current that is absolute. The river flows downward, without changing course. This is an escape from the river's flow....This is a story of three people who cross time and space to find each other, in an attempt to change destiny. But with a powerful satellite, a secret code and the future police on the hunt, an amnesiac who may be the key to everything must first uncover the true nature of her past...in order to discover who her friends are in the future.

When the promotional material for the second volume of a manga series begins, "Wondering just what the heck is going on?" you know you're in trouble. It's a shame that the first volume of Chrono Code plunges readers into such confusion, because it has real potential. Ji-Soo Chung is an orphaned schoolgirl in search of her missing younger brother in Seoul, Korea, in 1994. But in the 23rd century she may be Yun-hee, a "chronoid" with time-traveling capabilities and a colleague of the swash-buckling Blade (who, in 1994, is Ji-Soo's Russian teacher, Professor Nicolai). Blade's search for Yun-hee, who is apparently a powerful time traveler, overlaps with his pursuit of Doctor Joseph, another chronoid who has changed the confidential code for a satellite called Riverside that has the power to stop an apocalyptic 23rd-century war. It's fair to say that Chrono Code is suffering from an overabundance of plot and a dearth of background. But its art is lovely, combining fight scenes with dreamy splash pages, and the story is intriguing, despite a sometimes clunky translation. Manga fans who have the patience to follow the meandering plot should enjoy what they find. (Aug.)

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. "Riverside" is a thrilling, action-packed manhwa series in which Yun-hee, Blade, and Han-young cross over time and space to meet and even change their destiny. The story unfolds in the 23rd century, with Yun-hee and Yun-woo, having their picture taken at a monastery before they are whisked off to be adopted. In the next scene, it is the year 2274 and a mysterious Doctor Joseph changes the 'confidential code' of the 'Riverside' satellite. This 'code' is desired by many parties. The satellite seems to have tremendous power, but we don't know what kind. He escapes with the code and the police are in search of him and the code. For some reason, the police of the future, think that Ji-soo/Yun-hee is holding this mysterious code, perhaps hidden somewhere on her body. The year is 1994, and Yun-hee is now Ji-soo. The only memory she has of her past, is that she has a younger brother. In her spare time between high school and competitive Kum Do(a fencing sport with bamboo swords), Ji-soo searches for her missing brother. Blade/ Nicolae and Valeria travel back to the past in pursuit of the missing code. They try to kidnap Ji-soo, who they discover is also a 'chronoid.' They are certain she has the code. Chronoids have superhuman strength, are lightning fast, abd have great fighting skills. They also have the power to regenerate themselves back to health, in case of injury. But every time they try to grab her, Han-young interferes and helps Ji-soo. However, Ji-soo does get caught after she is tricked into thinking Valeria has Yun-woo. In fact, Valeria had a robot re-created to look like Yun-woo. Throughout this time, Ji-soo has no idea why she is being pursued, because of her amnesia. We also do not know if she in fact has the code. Unbeknownst to Valeria and the future police rangers, Blade has his own reasons to find Ji-soo. He knows Ji-soo as Yun-hee in the future. He does not want to kidnap her or torture her, to get the code. In fact, he intends to rescue her. But when Valeria finds out, she is furious and calls Blade a traitor. Valeria cannot get herself to kill him because of her feelings towards Blade. Blade is able to rescue Ji-soo from Valeria and the story continues in volume 2. Original back cover copy: Time is like an infinite, flowing river whose course continues forward, steadfast, unchanging. But its unchanging course is not without escape routes and veiled egresses. This is the chronicle of two who became one, defying the fates that conspired to keep them apart. The book has been read, but is in excellent condition. Pages are intact and not marred by notes or highlighting. The spine remains undamaged. Seller Inventory # GOR010028099
