About the Author

Joss Whedon was born in New York City in 1964. He started out as a staff writer for the 1990s sitcom Roseanne and worked on films, including Toy Story. In 1992 he penned the script for a film, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and when the TV version starring Sarah Michelle Gellar took off in 1997, Whedon had his big break—with its female action heroine, Buffy, became a huge hit. Whedon wrote hundreds of episodes for Buffy and its spin-off Angel, and was nominated for Emmy and Hugo awards for his work. Whedon has come to enjoy a cult following. The author lives in Santa Monica, California.

Zack Whedon is a film director and writer for television and comic books. Whedon was educated at Wesleyan University. He began his TV writing career with the HBO show Deadwood and has written and produced a number of other high-profile projects. In the comic book world, Whedon is known for his work on Serenity, The Terminator, and Dr. Horrible. He is the brother of Joss Whedon.

Jim Rugg is a comic book writer, penciller, inker, and artist. Rugg is known for his work on the Street Angel series, of which he is the cowriter. Rugg is also a contributor on Captain Victory and the Galactica Rangers, Dr. Horrible, The Guild, and Aphrodisiac.

Revisiting the cast of characters from the award-winning web musical, Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, this volume fleshes out some of the background. For example, we learn the damp origins of the good doctor’s sidekick, Moist; we gain some insight into Penny’s charitable nature; and we get to see a glimpse of what made Billy into the formidable evil Doctor he is today. Not to worry; there are appearances of the heroically chiseled Captain Hero and the Evil League of Evil and its diabolical leader, Bad Horse. We even get to see some new faces like the Captain’s teammates on the Council of Champions, the wannabe hero Johnny Snow, and the dastardly Fake Thomas Jefferson. Whedon (Joss’ brother) hits all of the right notes, with punchy writing that is loaded with humor and well-placed snark, and finely tuned characterizations. Likewise, all of the artists turn in stellar work that flows nicely through the transitions. Fans of the original Sing-Along Blog and other die-hard Whedon-ites will, of course, feel compelled to read this book; but it’s a winner that will appeal even beyond this crowd.
