Synopsis

The Purpose Of Lessons In Family Development

The purpose of this book is to call the straying masses back to the God of the Bible. As a pastor, I am concerned with the renunciation of the biblical principles upon which the best of life is to be built. Such virtues as manhood and being biblically challenged to reflect soundness in fatherhood. For women, being virtuous as one being prepared by God to assume the best in motherhood and a true godly helpmeet. I believe such virtues expressed by parents could produce a wholesome generation of children whose moniker is not that of an X but rather The Cross. Lessons In Family Development is an outgrowth of pastoral frustration and societal biblical illiteracy. I am frustrated because of the influences of society that impacts the lives of those within the congregations. While the biblical literate should be the light and salt of society, there seemingly is this falling away, this apostate element whose neglect to practice their faith has helped us arrive at this point of frustration. Being yeast less within a sinful society, I wonder at times, is society, with all of its new offerings, able to generate more enthusiasm for living than those who represent the moral teachings of the Living God? The answers point up the glaring need to return to the path of righteousness.

Embracing Biblical Values For Your Family

Practical Insights From Psalm 1

Rites of Passage is a cultural concept depicting the growth and development of the individuals within that culture. This concept is a community checklist by which certain values are to be taught and learned as a result of the community ethic. The teachings within this community are the primary responsibility of the nuclear family with extended family assistance. In most cultures and communities, this community ethic is operative, as it follows the African proverb-it takes an entire village to raise a child.

This village concept has kinship derivatives. It has to do with a community in covenant. A covenant is a stated body of standards by which a community follows. It is the agreement that community upholds through lifestyle adherence and participation. It is spiritual, social, political, and for many, therapeutic. Values are expressions of our village up-bringing: V Village vestments which clothe those who are born into it. A Attainments which assimilate us into the cultural traditions. L The learned lessons of our legacy which gives us pride to live. U The ultimogeniture of every one within the village structure to endow and secure our future. E Embracing eternal eclectics on building well rounded communal lifestyles. S Salubrious promotions to keep our villages healthy.

Evelyn Norfleet, a saintly member at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Norfolk, VA is originally from North Carolina, and she declares that because of her upbringing, every one she meets is her cousin. Herein is Kinship derived through the covenant regards of those comprising what we could call a Covenant Community-We all are cousins! Such an understanding permeates the intricacies of family and the accountability of those who make up the community of families-our society.

Family accountability addresses the theme of values. Values are derived out of our nuclear families as well as the community of families or our extended families. Psalm 1 carries an excellent body of wisdom which can help translate negative lifestyle values into positive ones when appropriated. Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. 2. But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. 3. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. 4. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. 5. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. 6. For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish. Psalm 1 KJV.
