Synopsis

It is the worst of times. Teddy and Pip's perfect lives have been turned upside down. Amelia has been gone for too many days, there are no postcards and Wally did not come. Mom Jane does it all wrong. She took away the TV remote, gave them tap water and called them monsters. Worst of all, she put them in a bucket. Help is needed. But how can they get it without revealing their big secret? You see, Teddy and Pip... can talk. Nine-year-old Molly Jane Fisher comes to the rescue. Not only does she love guinea pigs, she can keep a secret. She is also a detective and will not close the case until everything is sorted out. A Tale of Two Guinea Pigs is about love, loyalty, a puzzling mystery and smart detective work. Most of all, it is about two very special guinea pigs who will make you laugh and capture your heart. LISA MADDOCK lives in Shakopee, Minnesota with her husband Bill, daughter Allison and two pampered guinea pigs-Maggie and Peanut. (Teddy and Pip are not finished with her; they have more to say, so more stories are coming.)

Review

You are in for a treat. Just wait until you meet Teddy and Pip, two furry friends who will have you laughing out loud when you read "A Tale of Two Guinea Pigs", by Lisa Maddock. It's "the worst of times" for these two little guys as their world has been turned upside down by the disappearance of their beloved owner Amelia and her friend Wally. I would even describe Pip as a "Guinea Pig on the edge!"... to quote a famous donkey you might know. Never fear, help has just arrived and it's Molly Jane Fisher-age 9, to the rescue! You will certainly be able to relate to this girl. Molly tries to stay out of trouble and do the right thing, but when her new furry friends trust her to keep a very big secret, and their lives even depend on it, well, sometimes you just have to break a few rules in order to uncover the truth.

When I read A Tale of Two Guinea Pigs, it whisked me right back to my own childhood when at age 9, I was the proud owner of my very own hamster named Whiskers. My sister soon owned a female named Kristy and of course there was a wedding. Babies soon followed after the happy couple returned from their honeymoon, in their decked out shoebox car, which read JUST MARRIED on the side and had cans tied onto the back. Yes, we had many imaginative adventures with our own furry friends, who of course had voices of their own too...well with a little help from us.

Thank you, Lisa Maddock, for helping me re-visit some happy childhood memories. My sister is getting a copy of A Tale of Two Guinea Pigs for Christmas next year so she can laugh out loud with Teddy and Pip and take that trip down memory lane with me. --Sandy Greening, Elementary School Librarian, MN
