Katie Githens landed in Arlington, Virginia in 2005, a few months after graduating college. In the four years since, she's received a second education, this time schooled by the Old Dominion—fortunately not quite the school of hard knocks. The four years she has spent there have given her time to gather the lay of the land and explore the mountains, shores, and history of the affectionately-named Mother of Presidents.
Katie honed her writing skills at The Aspen Times and Los Angeles Sports & Fitness magazine. Together with her dog, Denali, she also spent months searching in and around DC for the highlights of the nation's capital for her last book, The Dog Lover's Companion to Washington, D.C.
Katie lives in Arlington, Virginia, with her husband Mike Githens and Denali. Katie works as a technical writer and editor in support of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
