About the Author

Faris Muhammad (Ph.D., University of Strathclyde, Glasgow) is Senior Technical Consultant and Technical Authority of UMTS and WiMAX technology at Aeroflex Wireless, UK. He is a chartered engineer and fellow of the Institute of Engineering and Technology. He worked as Senior Lecturer for Manchester Metropolitan University and University of Hertfordshire. His main topics of interest are wireless and optical fibre communications. Dr. Muhuammad's work has been published in numerous technical journals.

GOOD READ **** First Chapter of this book focuses on the basic concepts of UMTS technology. Simplified introduction to these concepts made it an excellent material for hurried reader and teaching.

Chapter 2 &3 give a very good summary of all conformance tests that are necessary to be conducted on different layers and modules of the UE under test, also they include and in-depth presentation of a selections and RF tests for UEs and NBs. In fact this could saves the reader time to read thousands of pages on conformance tests from the relevant standards material.

Chapter 4 explains in details all types of tests at different stages the system (whether UE or BS) need to go through throughout the lifecycle of the product. This chapter provides good coverage of all tests at all stages. Chapter 5 presents different languages and tools used in the conformance industry to carry out conformance testing.

Chapter 6 covers many distinct processes apply to the provision of test cases. The standardisation and validation bodies and procedures are well detailed in this chapter. -- Prof Hamed Al-Raweshidy (UK)
