About the Author:
Ted Gashlers s life has been spent in production agriculture, agribusiness, teaching, international agribusiness, scripture study, and missionary work. His world of work began with hands-on ownership and management of farms and agribusinesses. He owned two dairy farms, and a sheep ranch and was president and CEO of an International Bull Stud. Next, Ted served as Northwest Program Director for the Holstein Friesian Association. His teaching background began as a high school vocational agriculture teacher. Later he was hired by Oregon State University where he taught Dairy Science and managed the Dairy Research Farm. Then he went on to Northcentral Technical College in Wausau, Wisconsin, and served as Associate Dean of Agriculture and the Trade and Industry programs. While at Northcentral Technical College, he wrote grants that made it possible to bring more than one hundred students from Former Soviet Union countries to the U.S. for training in Wisconsin. During this time he was able to go to many of these countries and learn much that would help him in later years. He was then hired as Country Director, with Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance (VOCA), working in the countries of Macedonia and Ukraine and other parts of the former Soviet Union to help farmers and agribusinesses establish a free market economy after years of communism. Shortly after he returned to the United States he was called to serve as Mission President of the Russia Samara Mission. This mission is large and covers three time zones. During this three year time period he covered many miles and saw how agriculture was failing and felt the need to write this book, Opening the Seventh Seal, to help members understand the signs of the times. After his mission to Russia, he took twenty-one BYU students to China to teach English. While there he was able to write much of this book. Soon after this he was called on another mission, to serve as Chair of the Animal Science Department at BYU Idaho. While there he had the opportunity to study the scriptures more in depth and understand what will happen in the last days. For the past two years he has served yet another mission at Welfare Square in Salt Lake City. He has been serving as a bishop, helping the homeless and transients. During this period he has been able to see what life will be like for more people in the coming years.
