This book is a result of the motivation of friends, and the encouragement and support of my family. A wedding is a very special event in a person’s life. Traditions, customs and rituals add value to this beautiful ceremony. Hindu weddings have deep roots in the Vedas, impart rich meaning, yet, are vibrant, full of colorful rituals and symbolism. I have attempted to translate the meanings of the rituals, and the symbolism associated with a South Indian Hindu wedding, the source of which is the Kannada book, Maduve-Madhura Bandhana by Smt. Subhadra Subba Rao. As a first-time author, it has been a humbling experience for me, to write on such a profound subject.First hand narratives from young couples married in the Hindu tradition, lends a personal touch to the book. Although the process is simplified, the essence of the rituals still pervades. I hope the readers enjoy and gain insight into the rationale behind these rituals.
