A very happy bear hears the sounds of the city from his quiet home by the sea and decides to find out what city life is like. Buying the ticket and traveling on the train is all very exciting. And so is the city! But after a while, the bear finds the city a little too noisy and a little too busy. He feels sad and alone, until four children find him and show him the way home, with much fun along the way.
Lyrical text makes a perfect read-aloud, and the playful illustrations and spare text work well for the younger board book level.

Michael Rosen is a bestselling author of poetry. His classic picture book, We're Going on a Bear Hunt, illustrated by Helen Oxenbury, is a bestseller. Michael frequently appears on radio and gives talks. He is the British Children's Laureate for 2007-2009 and the winner of the Eleanor Farjeon Award for services to children's literature. Michael lives in London.
Adrian Reynolds was born in South Wales. After studying at Swansea College of Art and later at Cambridgeshire College of Art and Technology, Adrian worked at Heffers Children's Bookshop, then began writing and illustrating his own picture books. Adrian's very first books were published in 1997 and since then he has published more than twenty titles.
In spare, lilting text, a cuddly-looking bear sings to himself as he plays in the waves: "I walk by the sea. / By the sea? / By the sea! / And I play in the waves all day." When the sounds of the city call him, he takes the train, only to find city people rushing around, cars whooshing by, and market vendors shouting. So he runs away to the park where some children find him and take him home "To play in the waves" and "to sing together all day." The simple story line is enlivened by the call-and-response device, and engaging word sounds invite reader participation in a way reminiscent of Rosen's We're Going on a Bear Hunt (1989). The vivid colors exude warmth, and the full-of-life figures capture the whimsical playfulness of the words. "Doo bee doo, bee doodily doo," this is fun through and through. Cummins, Julie
