What I have done in the book How They Got There Mastering the Winning Strategies of Successful People is to examine the success strategies of high achievers. And my conclusion, based from research, is similar to that of Earl Nightingale, a well-known motivational speaker; and that is, successful people are not people without problems; they are simply people who have learned how to solve their problems. The major difference between those who succeed versus those who fail in life is that successful individuals do not make excuses for their shortcomings; rather, they find solutions to whatever the challenges are and move toward solving them. It is also my contention that whether written by Dr. Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, Zig Ziglar, or Brian Tracy, or by the myriad of other motivational speakers, the majority of the books on motivation are geared toward one thing to help bring out your passion about a specific goal, and to inspire you to act upon its achievement. In that regard, I am no different from these individuals, and the book, How They Got There is intended to do just that to cause you to act upon the achievement of your goals. However, in spite of the common thread that transcends motivational speakers, there is one distinguishing factor that separates the good from the great. That factor lies in the stories embedded in the principles that speakers attempt to teach. In How They Got There, I have tried to motivate you by simplifying the science of personal achievement through storytelling. As one reader surmises, this book is full of quotes, family sayings and anecdotes, and stories of personal experiences that grab your attention from the outset, and get you on the path toward realization of your dreams. In closing, I ask you to browse through the site, read and print copies of the articles I have written and will continue to write. In the meantime, I want to wish you much success in whatever you re doing, and hope that How They Got There will make the journey toward the accomplishment of your goals much easier. I look forward to your feedback.

Problems, or challenges, as Dr. Dumbuya would call characterize them, are a part of our daily lives. The distinction between those who succeed versus those who fail in life is that successful individuals do not make excuses for their shortcomings; rather, they find solutions to whatever the challenge is and move on. In expressing his opinion about other authors in the field of motivation, Dr. Dumbuya contends that whether written by Dr. Wayne Dyer, Tony Robbins, Zig Ziglar, or Brian Tracy, or by the myriad of other motivational speakers, the majority of the books on motivation are geared toward one thing to help bring out your passion about a specific goal, and to inspire you to act upon its achievement. Dr. Francis Dumbuya is no different from these individuals and the book, How They Got There is intended to do just that to cause you to act upon the achievement of your goals. However, in spite of the common thread that transcends motivational speakers, there is one distinguishing factor that separates the good from the great. That factor lies in the stories that underlie the principles that speakers attempt to share. In How They Got There, Dr. Dumbuya shows his impeccable ability to motivate others through storytelling. As one reader surmises, this book is full of quotes, family sayings and anecdotes, and stories of personal experiences that grab your attention from the outset, and get you on the path toward realization of your dreams. Finally, Dr. Dumbuya is also the author of an upcoming book titled, How to Start and Run a Successful Business. Review:
In sum, this text is not only about success in business .....not intended merely raise people from indigence to affluence .... Not a mere display of intellect or an academic exercise ....rather, this is a motivational program for people at all levels in every culture. The author commendably includes his own experience. This text therefore is a realistic, practical and therapeutic manuscript which, if followed, can pave the way to success, no matter how one defines that term. I, therefore, endorse the text whole-heartedly and how it will yield its intended fruits. --Dr. Sakui Malakpa, Professor

It was like you were talking directly to me ....simply speaking from your heart. I love your quotes, family sayings and anecdotes, and the many Christian references. This is the first chance I've had to get in touch with you since reading the book. Actually, I had read it within three days, since I was so enthralled with it. It was like a refresher course from all those years ago when I had listened to the audio version. This time I noticed things that I didn't notice the first time. I loved the easy reading style that flows like a tranquil stream. Of course, one of my favorites was the "Upper-Hand Theory." That is a "Francis original!" I learned a lot as a result of your listing the "14 Human Needs." My favorite chapters were #8, #10, and #11. Those chapters seemed to hold the wisdom and useful information that impacted me personally. I'm certain that everyone that reads the book will glean something different depending on their vantage point, specific to their needs. I loved your story about Jim on page #142! I also appreciated your statements on pages 31-32 about success being a deliberate plan of action. I'm a logical thinker, so I can relate to that. I absolutely loved page #80 regarding your approach to public speaking. I used to have a problem with the same situation when I would have to give presentations to child care providers at training sessions. I overcame it with meditation and prayer to build up my confidence ahead of time, something similar to your techniques. Pages 108-109 hit home with me because I have a difficult co-worker that I have to deal with on a daily basis, who exhibits those traits. Anyway, I ordered two additional copies of your book, and as the holiday season approaches, I'm going to think of more individuals that could benefit from your book. So I very well may be giving your book as Christmas presents!! I immensely enjoyed reading it again. It was even better second time around. --Carol Metzker, Social Worker

As I progress through your program, there is a definite flow ... One part connects with the other... It s like a Celtic Knot all parts are intertwined. Belief, focus, prepare and win ..... Your program has been an awakening for me. I am strengthened by your words and suggestions. Your opinions and information have given me a whole new way of looking at my goals. You have encouraged me with this program ... I have stopped making excuses... I am more confident and love my self for taking control of the fear that has possessed me for so many years. --Tonda Hollenback, Health & Fitness Instructor
