The Roaring Twenties, the Depression, World War II, and a dysfunctional family, form the background of a girl reared on the eastern Colorado sand hills. Isolation pervaded. Custody battles in and out of courts coupled with visitation controversies persisted down the years. Within the older child a pervasive longing never went away. She delighted in school where learning became her passion, and her teachers treated her adoringly. Her thoughts of going to college intensified. She discovered God from a stowed away Bible and accepted Him also as her Father. Fifteen years after her high school graduation, she accomplished her first college degree. Success as an educator met inescapable defeat from male dominance, professionally. in the bleakness of an aborted career, she remembered the book "Gone With the Wind".
