A partir de 1975 se llevó a cabo una batalla épica por el futuro del sur de África. El pueblo de Angola apenas se había librado de 500 años de brutalidad colonial portuguesa. Ahora el régimen supremacista blanco de Sudáfrica, atizado por Washington, había invadido Angola. Su meta: imponer un gobierno sometido a Pretoria y al imperialismo.
El gobierno de Angola pidió ayuda. La respuesta de la dirección cubana fue inmediata y decisiva. Una dura guerra por la libertad culminó en 1988 con la batalla de Cuito Cuanavale y la aplastante derrota del ejército sudafricano por los combatientes angolanos, cubanos y namibios. Esta es la historia de la contribución inédita de Cuba a la lucha para liberar a África del azote del apartheid. Y de cómo, al hacerlo, se fortaleció la revolución socialista cubana.
