Synopsis
Welcome to Animal Square where all the animals live and play together. Kitty, Mouse, Monkey, Giraffe, Rabbit, and Dog are six very best friends. They each live in their own little home and do lots of things together. Animal Square is a place full of friendship, happiness, and caring. Come join in the fun!
Kitty’s worried. Fish isn’t swimming anymore. Dog and Kitty try to make fish swim, but nothing works. Giraffe knows what’s going on: Fish has died. Together, the friends bury Fish. Kitty is so sad. She doesn’t want to forget about Fish. What can she do to remember?
A gentle first story about loss, grief and hope. For toddlers ages 30 months and up, with a focus on the child’s emotions.

About the Author
Judith Koppens has been an author and illustrator for many years. Children are her most important source of inspiration. Their enthusiasm and honesty are always part of her work. Judith lives in the Netherlands and works as a teacher at an elementary school.
Eline van Lindenhuizen was born in Meppel (Netherlands) on June 29th in 1983 and now lives in Kampen. From 2001 until 2006 she studied illustration at the Minerva Academy in Groningen. She loves drawing, books and flee markets.

PreS-These stories feature Kitty, Monkey, Mouse, Giraffe, Rabbit, and Dog as they experience everyday events. In Seesaw, Giraffe attempts to rise on the playground teeter-totter by asking friends of graduating weight to take the opposing seat. The menagerie finally discovers that Monkey, Dog, and Mouse together make the perfect pairing. In Good-bye, Fish, Kitty's friends attempt to get her dead goldfish to respond. When tickling its tummy and making waves in the bowl don't work, Giraffe breaks the bad news. A proper burial is held. After Kitty faithfully waters Fish's grave, since he "didn't like dirt, he liked water," a golden flower appears.
