From 1989 to 1993, the University of North Carolina women’s soccer team, led by Mia Hamm, compiled a 92-game winning streak, surpassing the 88-game winning streak posted by the John Wooden-coached UCLA men’s basketball teams of the early ’70s. The UNC record stood until 2007, when the Northampton Community College women’s softball team notched its 93rd consecutive win on April 1. During that stretch, the NCC Spartans won two state titles and outscored their opponents by a 10-to-1 ratio. The Road to a Record is the story of that streak. It’s the story of how these women not only rewrote the record book on the field, but also learned life’s lessons, formed bonds that may never be broken, and cultivated memories that last a lifetime.
