Synopsis

The objective in writing this book is to give coaches a game plan and a set format to use when they are going through the process of developing their offense. This book is designed to help coaches to be thorough and systematic in the development of their offensive playbook. There are many reasons for the success or failure of any offensive system, but there are certain variables that can lead to the success of any offensive system, such as correct personnel evaluation and categorization of the offensive plays. In the initial stages of this process, it is important to evaluate your team s personnel, both their strengths and their weaknesses. It is of value to know what the players can and cannot do. Once that is identified, it is important to be able to tie in the personnel groups and formations that fit the personnel and put the best players on the field. It is advantageous to incorporate motions and shifts to these groups and formations, so that the offense has the flexibility to change strengths and blocking leverage angles. The early chapters of this book address this process in great length.

About the Author

Vince Suriano is a retired Ohio High School Hall of Fame football coach, with 43 total years of coaching experience 33 years in high school coaching, with 23 of those years as a head football coach, and 10 years in college football. Vince was also a school teacher for 30 years, before retiring from the field of education in 2004. Vince started his coaching career in 1974 at Martins Ferry High School in Martins Ferry, Ohio. He was an assistant football coach from 1974-1983, along with serving as the head wrestling coach from 1977-1984. In 1984, Vince became the head football coach at Cadiz High School in Cadiz, Ohio, a position he held until 1986. While at Cadiz, his teams were 21-9, winning the conference championship in 1985. In 1987, Vince accepted the head football coaching position at Anderson High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. It is there where he had his most success. Vince was the head coach at Anderson High School for two decades. During that time span, Anderson had a record of 147 wins and 61, losses with a winning percentage of 71 percent. His teams won or shared the conference championship 12 out of the 20 years. Anderson qualified for the Ohio football playoffs seven times. Subsequently, Vince was voted conference coach of the year eight times. Anderson had three undefeated regular seasons, while under Coach Suriano s tenure 1992, 2001, and 2002. In 2007, Vince moved into the college ranks, taking a position as the assistant head football coach and offensive coordinator at the College of Mount St. Joseph, now Mount St. Joseph University, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He coached the Lions for five years, from 2007-2011. His 2009 team won the Heartland Conference championship, with a record of 9-2. While the offensive coordinator at MSJ, Vince developed and guided offenses that broke numerous offensive records. In 2007, the offense broke the single-season, totalyardage record. In 2009, the MSJ offense broke the single-season, total-passing mark. In 2011, it broke the single-season rushing record. In 2012, Vince went to Thomas More College in Northern Kentucky to become the senior offensive assistant and quarterback coach. With the Saints, Vince helped to install the pistol offense that Thomas More has had remarkable success using over the past several years. Vince then went into division I college coaching, at the University of Cincinnati, when he joined Coach Tommy Tuberville s staff as the Bearcat s Director of High School and Player Relations, while working with the offensive staff. Vince was on the UC football staff from 2013-2016, retiring in December of 2016. During the period that Vince was on the Bearcat s football staff, the University of Cincinnati football team was co-champions of the American Athletic Conference in 2014 with a record of 9-4. Vince was elected into the Ohio High School Football Coaches Hall of Fame in 2013. He is also a member of the Anderson High School Athletic Hall of Fame, to which he was elected in 2012. In addition, Vince was voted as a lifetime member of the Southwest Ohio Football Coaches Association in 2009. Upon his retirement, Vince started his own football company, called Football 360, in which he trains high school quarterbacks and delivers motivational speeches to groups of athletes, along with giving football coaching lectures to high school and college coaches. Vince and his wife, Crystle, have been married for 42 years. They have two sons, Michael, age 38, and Chris, age 34. Michael is married to the former Sharon Perkins and has three daughters, Avery, Addison, and Amelia. Both sons played football for their father at Anderson High School and were co-captains of championship teams.
