Dr. George Blough Dintiman received his B.S. from Lock Haven University, an M.S. from New York University, and a doctorate from Columbia University. He is an internationally recognized authority on speed improvement for team sports, author of 52 books, four videos, and over 300 articles on speed, conditioning, fitness, nutrition, weight control, and preventive disease. He is cofounder, president, and owner of the National Association of Speed and Explosion (naseinc.com), a major certification body in speed and explosion for team sport coaches, strength and conditioning coaches, athletic trainers, personal trainers, and undergraduate and graduate students preparing in the fields of physical education, coaching, personal training, health, athletic training, and physical therapy. The NASE, located in Kill Devil Hills, NC, is dedicated to one primary objective: improving speed in short sprints for sports competition. Dr. Dintiman has trained athletes of all ages, as well as consulted athletes performing in the NFL, NBA, MLB, and MLS. He remains active in the research and training of athletes for the improvement of speed in short sprints for team sport competition. Dr. Dintiman set numerous football rushing and scoring records at Lock Haven University, during his undergraduate days, breaking practically every existing record by the end of his career, several of which still remain in 2019. Subsequently, he was drafted by the Baltimore Colts (NFL), as well as a selection of the Montreal Alouettes (CFL). He also played other sports and scored 42 points in one basketball game as a freshman for Lock Haven University and 56 previously for his high school team. Furthermore, he captained the track team, competing in the 100-meter dash, high and low hurdles, and high jump. He was also an outside center on the Richmond rugby club. Dr. Dintiman served as head basketball coach at Inter American University of Puerto Rico for six years (two undefeated teams, five league championships). While in Puerto Rico, he also coached their professional team, the Athleticos de San German, as well as formed and coached the first intercollegiate football team in the history of Puerto Rico. He then moved on to coach at Southern Connecticut State University (1965-68), finishing his university career, with 30 years at Virginia Commonwealth University, as department chairman and professor of health sciences. During his career, Dr. Dintiman has received numerous honors and awards, including being inducted as a charter member of the Lock Haven University All-Sports Hall of Fame in 2015, the inaugural class of the Lock Haven University Football Hall of Fame in 2010, the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Capital Area Chapter, in 1993, and the Lock Haven University Business Hall of Fame in 2017. In addition, the town of Highspire, Pennsylvania Bicentennial Recollection (1814-2014) named Dr. Dintiman and Greg Manning as the two best all-around athletes in their 200-year history. Dr. Dintiman has two daughters, Brenda Jean Dintiman-Shanahan and Lynne Rose Dintiman-Mohn, one son, George Brian, and three grandchildren, Justin R. Mohn, Christine Shanahan, and Teddy Shanahan. He resides on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, where both he and his wife, Carol Ann, are avid fitness participants in tennis, cycling, kayaking, and weight training.
