The Feel Good Cookbook is a How To handbook with recipes for real people who seek a nutritional approach to fatigue, headaches, gut trouble or general autoimmune disease (ie. ADHD, arthritis, diabetes, fibromyalgia, IBS, MS and schleroderma) or who want to cut out refined sugar, dairy or wheat from their diet. It details one woman s journey back to health fover a two year period from fibromyalgia, a disease estimated to affect as many as 1 in 3 women between age 25 and 50 in the U.S. In addition to outlining a recipe for recovery from gut linked disease, it includes hundreds of kid-tested sugar-free, dairy-free recipes from appetizers and main dishes to kid s snacks and party food that are fresh, quick, affordable and most importantly, delicious. There is a strong connection between food and feeling good, between diet and disease. Whether you want to eat more whole foods, build your immunity, or heal a specific health problem this book is for you! Read on and be amazed at how directly the foods we eat can affect the way we feel in energy level, in mental clarity and mood, even in the degree of pain, inflammation and stress our bodies experience. Ten years ago, when I learned of the link between food and feeling good, I began looking for ways to feed my family healthier fuel free of refined sugars, refined flours, and allergenic dairy products. Also, wheat and gluten sensitivity for some of my family members invited me to explore the strange new world of gluten free dining. Discovering the goodness of whole foods, (including wheat) has rendered some wonderful new meals that my family actually prefers to the canned soup casseroles of the past. From our kitchen to yours, here are our family s favorite recipes...and here s to Feeling Good!

About the Author:
Jonell West Francis is a home engineer and happy mother of nine. She graduated from Brigham Young University with an Associates degree in Humanities and a Bachelors of Arts in History. After working ten years for WordPerfect Corporation in Software Development and Testing, Instructional Services and writing for the WordPerfect Magazine, she came home to care for her three children and begin debugging her own developing health problems. Now, thirteen years later, she and her husband enjoy raising their brood of nine at the base of Utah s beautiful Wasatch mountains. Ten years ago, my life changed dramatically. I had a history of declining health that had worsened with each pregnancy. My daily life included chronic headaches, lack of energy, sore muscles, aching in joints and limbs, occasional dizziness, and continual abdominal complaints, primarily diarrhea but alternating eventually with periods of constipation. There were rarely more than 4-5 days in a row that I felt really well. I knew that eating very much sugar or chocolate gave me headaches, especially if eaten on an empty stomach, and that emotional stress was also factor, but even at times when I hadn t felt stressed or consumed these known offenders, I frequently felt just blah. My search began. I consulted every specialist my medically connected family could find. Several physical exams, a scope, an ultrasound, repeated blood work and stool tests all came back normal. I acquired several labels for my worsening symptoms: colitis, spastic colon, irritable bowel syndrome, chronic fatigue immune deficiency syndrome, and finally fibromyalgia. I begged God to teach me the good that could come from this miserable condition and to find the resources to help me get well. I did find answers and recovered from fibromyalgia over a two year period. Following is my story along with what I ve learned. And if what I share here helps anyone with similar challenges then my effort is well met. The Cause: A Leaky Gut My return to health began when a friend, plagued by similar symptoms, told me about food allergy and the possibility that my symptoms may be linked to an unhealthy gut infested with carbohydrate loving yeasts. As I began researching systemic yeast and autoimmune disease I learned that many of the physical complaints we share as a culture, virtually all autoimmune diseases, share a common condition called Leaky Gut Syndrome. Among these autoimmune diseases and inflammatory states are: Arthritis ADD/autism Asthma AIDS Cancer Chronic fatigue Crohn s disease Diabetes Fibromyalgia Multiple Sclerosis Osteoporosis Schleroderma Leaky Gut Syndrome is a condition where the gut is more porous and permeable than normal, allowing partially digested food particles to be absorbed directly into the bloodstream. These particles trigger a series of inflammatory responses from the immune system that can affect any of the body s systems including the brain. By healing the cause of the leaky gut and healing the gut itself, these same foods, in their whole and natural state can be tolerated once again, and a life free from inflammation, discomfort and dis-ease regained. (Read Gut Reactions printed in Newsweek Magazine Nov. 17, 1997 for more on this condition.)
Review:
What readers are saying about The Feel Good Cookbook: My mother recently gave me one of your Feel Good Cookbooks for Mother s Day. I have to tell you how impressed I am. I am so excited to find a cookbook that is healthy and fresh but not dry, stuffy, and tasteless...not to say, completely impractical and unaffordable. So, thanks for passing this on to the rest of us. --Sara, Boise, ID I have loved reading your book and I have turned over a new leaf (I hope for good). I have been using your recipes the last month and have been happy with all that I have tried. I have yet to tell my children that we are eating more healthy and they have t noticed. They loved the Kid s Favorite Salad , Pina Colada s and Steve s chili (it is amazing!). I am so glad to get a healthy cookbook from a mother of many children because that means the recipes will be quick, normal, and tasty. --Noelle, Mesa, AZ I am so happy to hear about your book. My son, [a medical doctor] has talked about your ideas for a long time and now you ve got things into book form. I m thrilled. I suffer from fibromyalgia and so does a dear friend of mine. So I am ordering 2 books for now. --Sandra, Bountiful, UT I just want you to know that I'm really enjoying your cookbook. I feel great and I'm getting used to all the whole foods. I feel so healthy and I am no longer hooked on sugar. I whipped up some of the salad dressings and put them in decorative bottles and gave them as a gift to my mother-in-law for her birthday. She loved them and now she wants to try the book. --Laura, Chantilly, VA I love your cookbook! You ve encouraged me to try new ideas and foods and have done so much experimenting that I feel confident in your recipes. Thanks for sharing your experiences, knowledge and inspiration regarding healthy eating. You are blessing many lives! --Cathy, Ramona, CA This is a long-time-coming creation of my friend, Jonell Francis, who has completely healed from what doctors were calling chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. At age 32, she was told she'd just have to be tired and in pain the rest of her life -- nothing could be done. Enter several life changes, and at age 43, Jonell is the picture of perfect health, jogs regularly and has just had her ninth child! Changing her family's diet to whole foods (and at the beginning, excluding allergy and gluten foods) has changed their lives! And she has mentored countless others, including me, to break free of their health struggles too, or to simply improve their family's daily eating. Everyone, including me kept asking, "when are you going to publish a cookbook?" Well, here it finally is. Jonell can take good ol' comfort food, Betty Crocker, PF Chang, Café Rio, and Maglebee's, healthy-ize it, and WOW, this food is GOOD !!!! Every single thing she has cooked for me has been five star. And I've tasted a lot of her recipes over the nine years I've known her. --Becky, Syracuse, UT --Readers Write In
