Reviews

K-Gr 3—Children are treated to vibrant photographs and clearly constructed texts in these titles. Each one presents the birds' geographical location, appearance, diet, life cycle, and daily habits in language that is accessible and easy to parse, though a bit repetitive. Key vocabulary terms appear in bold type and are defined at the bottom of the page, while captions provide further information. At the end of each volume, Riggs includes a folktale about the bird, thereby allowing readers to access mythology and verbal lore as it pertains to the creature. Attractive additions to nonfiction collections.—Amanda C. Buschmann, Atascocita Middle School, Humble, TX
