Synopsis
Dan Ragan has a reputation as a gunman who won't go out of his way to avoid trouble. Years ago, a woman had chosen gambler Colby Strickland over Ragan, and when he learned that she was being brutalized, Ragan shot and killed Strickland. The law declared it self-defense, but that's not good enough for young Jody Strickland, who is determined to avenge his father's murder. Ragan knows that Jody is no match for him, so he's heading to the Mexican border to avoid a deadly confrontation -- but what he finds on the trail could prove even more lethal in the short novel "Range Feud." In the title story, "Fire Valley," Dave Ruskin arrives in Fire Valley in the New Mexico Territory to take possession of the ranch he inherited from his uncle, Saul Gans. Dave's parents never had much good to say about the uncle and now Dave is going to find out why. A group of ranchers, convinced that Gans's men are behind the cattle rustling in the area, have pooled their resources to buy Dave out and get rid of the crew. But that's not at all what Dave has in mind . . .
