In 2005, after working for ten years in a comfortable but mundane corporate job in San Antonio, Texas, Vincent Sellers successfully managed to leave behind a dreary cubicle landscape and begin the exciting challenges of a crime-fighting FBI agent. His journey is chronicled in Eyes Pried Open: Rookie FBI Agent.
Readers will experience both the highs and the lows of an FBI agent working bank robbery, kidnapping, murder-for-hire cases, and border-related crimes in San Diego, California. The book's from-the-heart narrative demonstrates that the typical lifestyle of an FBI agent assigned to a violent crime squad may not be for everyone. This is the first book to be written from the fresh perspective of an agent who joined the FBI after 9/11.

Readers,
Thank you for your interest in my book. The reason I wrote the book was to paint a portrait, with warts and all, of my experience of becoming an FBI agent. I was (and am) just a normal IT guy that deals with emails and spreadsheets all day. But I did succeed in breaking away into a life of crime-fighting, and I simply wanted to document that incredible journey for friends, family, and anyone who is or has contemplated becoming an agent.
Working for the FBI was a dream of mine since high school, and I was honored and thrilled to make it in. My experience at the FBI Academy was enlightening, and is documented in detail (with many of those details being painful). If you are looking for more information on what it "really" is like to go through the FBI Academy, you will gain an insider's perspective with this book.
Life as a violent crime-fighting FBI agent is also revealed in full. The thrill of handcuffing and arresting a person, especially for someone with an ordinary "corporate" background, is hard to top. But the lifestyle and repetition of working reactively trying to combat crime that is never-ending is also portrayed; this lifestyle is not for everyone over the long haul, including me.
If you are applying to be an agent, I wish you the best of luck with that endeavor. This book will give you an idea of how to navigate that process and what to expect life to be like as an agent. But if you decide not to go down the road less traveled, know that we all contribute to society and can make the world a better place; just do something that allows you to live a fulfilling and happy life, and make the most of every day.
Again, I sincerely appreciate your interest in my book and I hope you enjoy reading it.
