About the Author
Louisa May Alcott (1832-1888) was an American novelist, short story writer, poet, and author of classic children's literature, best known for Little Women and its sequels. Raised in a New England household shaped by Transcendentalist thought, reform politics, education, and literary ambition, Alcott developed a body of work that combined domestic realism, moral seriousness, humour, and sympathy for the emotional lives of children and young women. Her fiction remains central to nineteenth-century American literature and to the history of juvenile fiction.Although Alcott is most often remembered for the March family novels, her shorter works show the breadth of her imagination: family stories, girls' fiction, fairy tales, moral sketches, sentimental tales, and stories of work, illness, courage, and self-command.
