About the Author

Dorothy Winger has 21 years of experience in teaching and curriculum development for health science and family and consumer science. She has dedicated the last 17 years to building the Health Science program at Madison East High School, where she is the Nursing Assistant program coordinator
and has taught Health Science Occupations, Body Structure and Function, Medical Terminology, and Health Information Office Assistant. She also serves as a HOSA advisor, Red Cross blood drive coordinator, and Youth Health Service Corps advisor. Dottie has written statewide curricula, served as
president of Wisconsin Health Occupations Professional Educators, sat on the Wisconsin Governor's Task Force on the Health Care Worker Shortage, and served on the leadership team to develop the Wisconsin Standards for Health Science. She has spoken at both national and state conferences on various
educational topics. As an education consultant and mentor, Dottie continues to serve as a teacher leader.

Susan Blahnik is a dedicated educator whose teaching career spans 40 years. Focusing on secondary education, she has taught career and technical coursework in health science as well as family and consumer education. She developed the health science career pathway for her local school district and
taught Introduction to Medical Occupations, Body Structure and Function, and Medical Terminology. She established and managed the nursing assisting program, supervised youth apprentices, and advised the HOSA chapter. Sue has written statewide curriculums and recently served on the leadership team to
develop the Wisconsin Standards for Health Science. She has presented at both national and state conferences and served as the first president of the Wisconsin Health Science Occupations Professional Educators. An avid supporter of service learning, Sue has mentored both students and fellow
educators, and has received several grant awards to support health science instruction and service learning projects. Sue continues her commitment to children and learning as an educational consultant and author.
