James Philip, Scottish pastor-theologian, takes us through a series of meditations on the last hours of Jesus' life, from the Last Supper to Calvary. All the while, he brings unusually perceptive insight into Christ's 'fierce, costly love.' Philip's blend of intelligent doctrinal instruction and poetic pastoral application, his depth of feeling and his clarity of expression, are all emphasized in a beautifully written Foreword by Sinclair Ferguson. A study guide in the back makes this book useful for Bible studies, Sunday schools, and church small group settings.

James Philip, of Holyrood Abbey Church, Edinburgh, served as pastor for 40 years until his retirement in late 1997. His ministry was one of the most far-reaching in Scotland in the 20th Century.
From time to time a publication appears, of modest size and author, its value greater than a whole bookshelf of bestsellers. 'The Glory of the Cross' falls in that category.
The fine quality of James Philip's mind will immediately be obvious. But his writing is also full of pathos. He is at one with his subject and has clearly been more deeply impacted by it than by anything else in the world.
Revd Prof Sinclair Ferguson, Columbia, South Carolina
