Synopsis

The nation is safe. Its people are surviving. But at what cost and for how long?

Piecing together the remnants of a defunct psychic research program, a brilliant but heinous anti-terrorist group searches for unique candidates, employing a government black ops force to hunt and enlist individuals predisposed with psychic abilities.

In pursuit of two very different missing persons, ex-FBI man Kellen Rand and broadcast executive Lorna Novak merge unexpectedly in a race to find answers, revealing difficult truths along the way. As Lorna searches for her abducted twelve-year-old niece, Kellen tracks down a missing Indian Shaman named January, whose exceptional abilities may be the key to saving millions of lives.

Trampling civil rights for the sake of the nation’s survival, this “end justifies the means” conspiracy is delicately intertwined with January’s fascination with an elusive hidden relic hidden for centuries somewhere in the San Juan Islands – a relic that may have shocking universal significance.

With their paths colliding once more and their lives rapidly transforming, Kellen and Lorna must defeat the veiled, yet powerful schemes of this brewing crisis as scientists prey on the minds of the innocent, archeologists rush to unravel an ancient mystery, and the reader, along with the rest of the world, awaits the startling revelations of The Find.

Paddy clutched the rail with both hands. "They're coming back."

From the frantic pitch of the dogs and the echo of several men's voices, the search was still on. On the bluff to the south, the panning beams again knifed through the trees. The off-road bikes headed into the forest as the men on foot moved steadily toward the ocean.

Suddenly off to the right, outlined in the light, January reappeared, bolting along the edge of the cliff like a hunted animal. He hurdled downed trees, weaving through rocks in a panicked dash.

"Jesus." Paddy took an impulsive step toward the helm as some hundred-and-twenty feet above, January hurriedly passed their position from right to left.

Fifty yards behind, the small group of men appeared, dressed in dark battle fatigues, carrying rifles. Their lights bobbed as they ran.

"Stay with him," Kellen shouted.

Paddy eased the throttle forward and the Tide Runner headed north, keeping pace along the rocky shore. Kellen clung to the stern rail, his eyes riveted on the pursuit. Three yelping dogs had outdistanced the pack of men, only twenty yards behind January. Off to the left from the inland side of Point Doughty, the lights of the off-road bikes appeared, blocking what had been January's escape.

The shaman had run out of real estate.

Without a second’s hesitation, January made his choice. He glanced over his shoulder and with a final burst of speed, raced toward the cliff's most prominent outcropping, his hands raised over his head like antlers.

Reaching the edge, he touched off with both moccasined feet, spreading his arms like an eagle.

Kellen and Paddy watched in amazement as January arched his back in a graceful swan dive. He dropped like a spent arrow, plunging ten stories through the darkness. Narrowly missing the rocky shoreline, January splashed into the churning waves and disappeared.
