Eyeballing Big Croc is the personal odyssey of Vivien Zielin, who grew up in London’s East End. She fulfills her dream of traveling the world and discovering experiences beyond the stereotypes. As she explores both familiar and distant places, she encounters crocodiles, moonshine, prime ministers, an unexpected war and drug smuggling. A visit to Russia and an interview with the KGB vividly illustrates the delicate and easily threatened nature of freedom. Back home in England she opens a gift shop in London’s Carnaby Street. She meets politicians, academics and movie stars, including Indira Gandhi, Sir Isaiah Berlin and Paul Newman. Then in 2003 she takes a Torah home to Belarus, and in 2014 observes the horrifying effect a terrorist attack in Israel has on a family of young children. As each story develops, Vivien – now living in San Francisco – finds her horizons widening and her awareness of the beauty and fragility of life heightened.
