About the Author

My involvement with parrots started out much like with any other parrot owner. I was looking for a pet, thought a bird might be fun, and got one at a pet shop. I knew nothing about how to handle one and had to learn it all from scratch. In just 5 years I went from someone who wouldn't handle any animals to making TV performances with my parrots. However, it is everything in between that I would like to share that will no doubt be helpful to you. First and foremost my parrots are my pets. I would not be doing any performances or training with them if I thought it was harmful to them in any way. As it turns out, it's the exact opposite and it brings out the best pet qualities in them. The purpose of this book is to help you achieve the same desirable pet qualities in your companion parrot without becoming a performer or spending too much money. My parrots taught me how to be firm but gentle, kind but challenging, deliberate but adaptive, and above all patient. It is my purpose to share with you my parrot owning approach in whole that has led to what I would consider some genuinely well-behaved parrots.
