Charles J. Jacobus received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Houston in 1970 and a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from the University of Houston Law Center in 1973. He is board certified by the State Bar of Texas Board of Legal Specialization in both residential and commercial real estate law. He is a member of the American College of Lawyers and the Houston Real Estate Lawyer’s Council, and he has served as president of the Real Estate Educators’ Association, chairman of the Real Estate Section of the Houston Bar Association, and chairman of the American Bar Association Committee on Real Estate Bro-kers and Brokerage. He has served on the Board of Editors for the American Bar Association Committee on Books and Publications, was mayor of his hometown, Bellaire, Texas, and served on the Real Estate, Probate, and Trust Law Council of the State Bar of Texas as chairman of the State Bar of Texas Committee on Title Insurance. He has served as cochairman of the Texas Real Estate Commission’s Broker-Lawyer Committee and the Texas Real Estate Center’s MCE Advisory Commit-tee. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center and the University of Houston Bauer School of Business’ graduate real estate program at the Stanford Alexander School of Excellence in Real Estate Education.
Thomas E. Gillett has been a real estate and appraisal licensee and educator for over 30 years. Beginning his real estate career after military service in the early 1970s, he has become well respected in education for his ability to explain complex concepts in simple and practical terms that students can both understand and apply. He has developed a presentation style that involves playful interaction with his students, which is both educationally dynamic and entertaining. He continues to conduct in excess of 200 classes per year for both candidates for real estate and appraisal licensure and those already practicing in the profession. He is a primary instructor for the popular Georgia Association of REALTORS® Partners in Education program. He is a three-time recipient of the Georgia Instructor of the Year Award (2003, 2012, and 2013), and in 2006 he was presented with the Career Achievement Award by the Georgia Real Estate Educators Association. He has been recognized as a Captain of Industry by his local REALTOR® Association, and in 2016 he was humbled to be recognized by the Atlanta Business Chronicle as one of the most influential people in residential real estate in Georgia.
