From the Author:
Within today's disruptive business conditions, the surf is always up.
We are now in an era in which technology and information-sharing platforms have given buyers and consumers more information about products and services than ever before.
There's a new power dynamic between companies and customers in which buyers no longer need organizations to help them make a purchase decision.
And because of mass distraction with the way we live and work, you also need to find creative and innovative ways to stand out from the crowd.
In my book, Ride the Wave: How to Embrace Change and Create a Powerful New Relationship with Risk, I describe how these new challenges are impacting business and how it will only be a matter of time before every industry, product or service and organization feels the pain from these market disruptions.
With this kind of rapid change happening, you can't be slow and if you're not meeting these new demands, then you're falling behind.
The question you need to ask yourself is, "How will you grow your organization and yourself as a professional if you are constantly battling wave after wave of change?"
It's my belief that business leaders today need to model themselves after the archetypal surfer by using a new set of principles:
· They must learn to embrace the conditions by quickly evaluating changing markets
· Adopt a progression-based mindset that continually helps them build new skills
· And use risk as a compass by exploring risk-driven strategies that help them break-through the status quo to reach new levels of success.
Risk in business is now the new norm, but it's also the new path to success.
Using these principles will help professionals learn to anticipate and embrace change, feel more confident in their business decisions and take on more risk in order to overcome new challenges.
The principles can be used by anyone experiencing a personal or professional challenge and as a process for overcoming these obstacles instead of being wiped out by them.
The business leaders and organizations that embrace this change, adopt a new mindset and willingly explore risk, will not only survive, but will thrive in these new conditions.
These organizations will become leaders in their respective markets instead of followers and become more like the surfer by riding this wave of change.
From the Inside Flap:
On July 1, 2014, I began a new journey. Much like an odyssey, I answered a call to an adventure that would change how I approached business and my life. My journey was tough. The toughest thing I have ever done. I experienced two epic failures that would serve as the genesis for this book, and the challenges I write about here are ones that I had to overcome personally. I have firsthand experience with everything written in this book and have the mental and physical scars to prove it. In writing this book, I kept specific people in mind and wanted those closest to me to serve as the inspiration and audience for this book. My goal was to entertain, motivate, and forever change the people who would read my story. Even though this is my journey, there's a universal lesson within the pages and chapters of this book and a unique message that will help anyone overcome a new business or personal challenge that is bigger than themselves.
The reason you need to read this book is because of change. Change is happening in business, and it's impacting our personal lives faster than anyone could have predicted or anticipated. We're starting to see the power of technology and information when it's available to anyone with an Internet connection. We've seen how small companies, large organizations, and even individuals are leveraging that power to do amazing things on an unprecedented scale. In order to adapt to this change and stay relevant, you will need the ability to understand, manage, and explore the changing business situations around you quickly and effectively. You will need to ask, "What are the challenges of the new market conditions? What skills or knowledge is needed? What personal and professional risk am I willing to take on to find success?"
During my journey, I answered these questions through a set of personal and professional experiences. These experiences led me to write this book and to create a process to overcome these new challenges for myself, but also for others. I developed this process for anyone to understand and overcome the new challenges happening around them. In this book, I want to share what I learned and help you overcome the same challenges I experienced. This is your playbook for the new way to succeed in business and life.
This book will walk you through a new process for overcoming challenges and give you the confidence to make tough decisions and find success. What makes this book different is the use of the surfer as a model for you to follow and a new set of principles to apply to the business world. These principles create a repeatable process that's simple and easy to use, but that also achieves results. Most books use the past to try to explain the future. This book looks forward, however, instead of looking back, and uses the lens of the surfer to encourage action in a new direction. Riding the wave is about using the natural momentum of the change that we're experiencing to overcome challenges instead of being crushed or wiped out by them. The goal is to be more like the surfer and to ride the wave.
