Set against the Himalayan Mountains, young readers follow Sati, a kind white elephant whose early life is shaped by his mother’s care and selflessnes. As Sati grows, he learns to return the love he was given, guided by her example of putting others first. When he is captured by a powerful king and surrounded with comfort and luxury, he discovers that no wealth can replace compassion or gratitude. Refusing food and water, Sati shows unwavering devotion to his aging, blind mother left alone in the forest, moving the king to release him.

About the Author
Bhikshuni Jin Rou is a Buddhist nun and award-winning author of children's books. She goes under the pen names of Dana Green and Red Wing and is the founder of Instilling Goodness Books, inspired by the teachings of the Buddha. With a Master's degree in Buddhist Classics from Dharma Realm University and a certificate in Children's Writing from the University of Washington, she is committed to educating and inspiring young readers to connect with their spiritual nature.

Sati said, “My old mother is alone in the wild. Even if I die, I cannot eat or drink without giving her food and drink first.” The king wept and said, “Never have I seen such kindness. First your mother, then me!” Sati raced through the hills, looking for his mother. He found her by the river. She lay in the mud, too weak to move. Filling his trunk with water, he gave her a drink and gently bathed her until she shone like the moon.
