About the Authors

Alex Dmitrienko, PhD, is Founder and President of Mediana Inc. He is actively involved in biostatistical research with an emphasis on multiplicity issues in clinical trials, subgroup analysis, innovative trial designs, and clinical trial optimization. Dr. Dmitrienko coauthored the first edition of Analysis of Clinical Trials Using SAS : A Practical Guide, and he coedited Pharmaceutical Statistics Using SAS : A Practical Guide.

Christy Chuang-Stein is an independent statistical consultant with 30 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. She was Vice President, Head of the Statistical Research and Consulting Center (SRCC) when she retired from Pfizer in 2015. As the Head of the SRCC, Christy led a group of expert statistical consultants in providing strategic consultation to all teams that could benefit from the use of statistical thinking at Pfizer. In addition, Christy and her team collaborated broadly with scientists, both internally and externally. Christy is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association with more than 145 publications including several book chapters and two books. Christy is a repeat recipient of Drug Information Association’s Donald E. Francke Award for Overall Excellence in Journal Publishing and Thomas Teal Award for Excellence in Statistics Publishing. Christy is a founding editor of the journal Pharmaceutical Statistics and has served on several editorial boards. Christy was a vice president of the American Statistical Association (ASA, 2009-2011). She received ASA’s Founders’ Award in 2012 and the Distinguished Achievement Award of the International Chinese Statistical Association in 2014.

Ralph B. D'Agostino, Sr., PhD, is Professor of Mathematics/Statistics, Biostatistics, and Epidemiology at Boston University. His major fields of research are clinical trials, epidemiology, prognostics models, longitudinal analysis, multivariate analysis, robustness, and outcomes/effectiveness research. He has extensive experience developing cardiovascular risk prediction models which have been used in Treatment Guidelines sponsored by the NIH and American Heart Association and also web-based models for general consumer use. He is a fellow of the American Statistical Association and the Cardiovascular Epidemiology Council of the American Heart Association. He has been an advisor to the FDA since 1974 and has consulted extensively with pharmaceutical companies around the world. Ralph has over 600 publications in peer-reviewed journals and is co-author/editor of 11 books. He has served on the editorial boards of multiple journals and is also an Editor of the Wiley Encyclopedia of Clinical Trials.
