The ASSU, now called the American Missionary Fellowship, has been associated with some of America’s most prominent citizens and religious leaders. Bushrod Washington, George Washington’s nephew and heir of Mount Vernon, was vide-president of the ASSU until 1829. Other ASSU officers include Francis Scott Key, D.L. Moody, Laura Ingalls Wilder, and John Adams (descendant of both early presidents).
