Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Carter has been a committed lawman for over 30 years. A decorated Vietnam veteran, he was highly regarded as a patriot and a man of indisputable principles. And now, a tragic event has caused him to question his own moral convictions. The year is 2003. A fanatical Sunni terrorist has entered the country undetected. With the collaboration of three jihadi radicals hell-bent on martyrdom, he successfully plans and executes a series of devastating explosions that mercilessly kill numerous civilians, government officials and military personnel. Prior to the bombings, the ruthless terrorist viciously and sordidly murdered a former team member of the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force, who was also Sam's close friend and protege; a young man he thought of like a son. Enraged by the cold brutality of the killing, Sam cannot shake the overwhelming desire for vengeance now taunting his soul. From results of a preliminary investigation, which included eyewitness testimony and crucial evidence extracted from an organized crime boss, the insurgent bomber was eventually identified and disclosed he had fled the U.S. by way of Mexico in an attempt to escape back to his homeland. Invoking the Patriot Act as its authority, the United States District Court in St. Louis, Missouri issued a "fugitive from justice" warrant and ordered the U.S. Marshals Service to track down and apprehend the fleeing jihadi extremist. The arduous responsibility fell to Deputy U.S. Marshal Carter and three hand-picked fugitive task force members. The dilemma confronting the fearless lawman was not the mission to hunt down the evil madman, but rather, the burden of bringing him before the court to face justice - ALIVE. Fate would ultimately decide the final outcome.

I was hooked from the intriguing introduction of "Probable Cause for Vengeance" by David Wolf and my interest never faded for a moment! I loved the authentic and strong characters and plots that continued to build with tension and shock and surprise. Just when you think you know what's happening, something comes along to throw a wrench in it. This is good, because I hate books that are super predictable. And this one isn't. Although there are some familiar themes and tropes at play, and you will recognize "real life" in these pages, I think Wolf brings a fresh attitude and literary style and makes it all his own and doesn't just rehash the same ole 'terrorist' plot lines we see so frequently in this genre. But, there is plenty of that here too, along with real relationships and a personal vendetta and need for justice that we as the readers can all get behind. I've read a ton of political-action thrillers & suspense over the years so I'm rarely surprised by anything anymore, but I can say that this author managed to do it. I appreciated the brisk pace and the descriptive details that really brought the story to life - authentic world building (and character development) is absolutely crucial in selling a believable story and it is done quite nicely here... Recommend for anyone (adults) who enjoy a well-written, action packed, true-to-life drama with unexpected twists and a gritty, authentic storyline. Would be happy to read more from David Wolf in the future. (5 Stars) Carla Biggins - Indie Book Reviewers.
"Probable Cause for Vengeance" is an intense crime thriller by David Wolf, a retired federal agent who draws on his experience to bring a gripping tale of radical terrorism to life that had me on the edge of my seat with every turn of the page.
Deputy U.S. Marshal Sam Carter is a Vietnam veteran turned law enforcement officer who lives for the thrill of the chase and will stop at nothing to bring the bad guys down. Behind the man who risks his life for his country, however, is a family man who holds friendships close to his heart, ensuring that this story is about more than just hunting down a criminal. When Sam's former partner, and someone he considered a close friend, almost a son, is brutally murdered by a radical Pakistani terrorist before a larger terrorist plot is carried out, the chase becomes a little more personal for Sam, who vows to bring the guilty man to justice no matter the cost. What follows is a thrilling adventure with Sam putting together a team of people he trusts to bring the same passion, morals and sacrifice that he himself will dedicate to the hunt. A team he trusts with his life. With information from an informant, the small team heads through Central and South America to track down the terrorist before he has a chance to flee back to his homeland. The question is...will Sam be able to bring in the killer alive, or will his thirst for vengeance get the better of him and lead to him seeking retribution for his former partner and the other innocent people who lost their lives at the hands of this evil man? What I really loved about this book was the pacing. There's a lot of action going on and it's very quick, but the author manages to have it all make sense. I didn't once feel lost or confused, despite there being several plot lines to follow at the same time. We start in Vietnam, getting a little glimpse into the military experience of Sam and the camaraderie and bravery displayed by him and his fellow servicemen, leading to his career in law enforcement and how the two link together. Everything is woven together carefully, intertwining and flowing seamlessly without any jarring or missing links. I have nothing negative to say about this book. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end and thought the suspense, action and overall plot was incredibly well done. It's clear the author has experience in the fields he is writing about and a lot of careful research has gone into the other parts of it. I rate this book 4 out of 4 Stars. It was a gripping adventure from start to finish with well-developed characters, several interlocking deep plot lines and more twists than I could count. If you like your reads to be thrilling, action-packed page-turners, then I'd highly recommend you give this one a try. Reviewed by Leese, Online Book Club.
