Janet Sever Hull grew up in Elkhart, Indiana and is a graduate of Purdue University. She began writing at the age of 16 when one of her high school English teachers asked her to write an article for the school magazine about her experiences during a mission trip to Haiti the previous summer. She continued writing for the next 35 years, but only considered it to be a hobby even though several of her articles and stories were published. Vicki Killion Guess grew up in Oklahoma and majored in Art and Theatre at Oklahoma State University. She has been a schoolteacher for many years and currently teaches art in Grapevine, Texas. In early 2013, Janet decided to turn her writing “hobby” into a profession, and she met Vicki Guess through a mutual friend. After Vicki read the story that would later become their first book, they met to discuss how the book would look. Their first book together, The Button Box, was published in 2014 and their second book, Which Came First? was published in 2016. In November of 2016, The Button Box was named a finalist in the national Best Book Awards, and Which Came First? was chosen the 2017 Best Children’s Book at the North Texas Book Festival. Their third book, The Day The Turkey Came To School, was published in September of 2017 and was chosen the 2018 Best Children’s Book at the North Texas Book Festival. In the fall of 2020, Janet sent Vicki two new stories. Their fourth book together, The Halloween Scare, was published in August of 2021. The Halloween Scare was a “bonus” story that Janet wrote while she was working on The Christmas Church. Vicki normally illustrates in acrylic paint. For The Christmas Church she painted with watercolor paint to make the pictures look more like memories.
"You will get through this time, child. Holidays are especially hard when we are missing people we love. Hold onto those around you who are here and who want to be there for you."
