Es una historia corta dividida en capítulos muy cortos, cada uno con uno con su propio nombre, pero a la vez preciosos y cargados de significado y sentimiento, en esta obra, por ejemplo, el primer capítulo, Dios, relata en Las diferentes épocas en el que este personaje asciende a la montaña son como las diferentes edades que una persona tiene: niño, joven, adulto, y desde cuando era bastante joven llamaba a Dios, él estaba junto a él pero el personaje no lo veía, siguió intentando hasta que pudo reunirse con Dios. Gibran Kahlil Gibran (Yibran Jalil Yibran ibn Mija'il ibn Sa'd era su nombre completo en árabe) fue un poeta, pintor, novelista y ensayista libanés nacido en Bisharri, (Bsharri, Becharre) Líbano, el 6 de enero de 1883 . Gibran Kahlil también es conocido como el poeta del exilio y por muchos como el "profeta de Oriente" por su obra El profeta (publicada en 1918). Recibió una esmerada educación cosmopolita.. Su muerte se determinó que fue por cirrosis en el hígado y tuberculosis. Volvió a Boston y comenzó a publicar en árabe obras que ponen de manifiesto su peculiar estilo. Su habilidad por el dibujo y la pintura lo llevó a crear obras tan importantes que se exhibieron en varias partes del mundo y llegaron a compararse con trabajos de Auguste Rodin o William Blake. El 10 de abril de 1931 Kahlil Gibran muere a los cuarenta y ocho años en la ciudad de Nueva York. Sus restos fueron trasladados a Líbano, donde hoy yacen en un camino muy cercano al "bosque sagrado de los cedros milenarios". Su obra maestra es El Profeta” (1923), aunque también destacan “Espíritus Rebeldes” (1903), libro censurado en su país por revolucionario y pernicioso, “Alas Rotas” (1912), texto autobiográfico, “El Loco” (1918), obra influenciada por Nietzsche, o “Jesús, El Hijo Del Hombre” (1928), título en el que setenta y siete personajes dan su opinión sobre Jesucristo, incluido el propio Gibran. La literatura de Kahlil Gibran se define por una búsqueda mística de las materias más clásicas del comportamiento y sentir existencial desde una impresión de bonhomía y conexión natural.
