Synopsis

Tansy had a perfect life, but suddenly everything changed…It was my fifteenth wedding anniversary. But I spent it in the hospital with my husband after he was in a tragic accident. Now, I faced the most difficult decision of my life, one that would affect my daughter and my future. Samuel was gone, and we felt lost without him. We decided to sell our home. The memories we had him in that house were too painful. So, we packed up the house, said our goodbyes to the friends we'd had for many years, and closed the door. We were moving to Idaho. Tess wanted to spend a few weeks with her grandparents on her father's side. I watched her leave and pondered over our future. I had one more place I needed to visit before I could move on. Samuel and I spent every year at an old Inn located in the small town of Lava Hot Springs. While Tess was away, I decided to take a trip there to relax and say my goodbyes. However, when I arrived, resting was the last thing on my mind once I saw the new proprietor. Seth was unlucky in many things, but he never quit trying… October was the start of my busy season. People flocked to the Inn during the winter months so they could use the mineral pools. This week I was booked, and we were expecting another storm. As I went over incoming reservations, I heard someone's bags banging up the stairs. I was about to tell the thoughtless person to be considerate of the other guests, but the words never left my lips. The woman stuck her hand out to shake mine. "Hello, I'm Tansy Whitfield. I made reservations online. Could I have a room that overlooks the Port Neuf River?"

From the Back Cover

"Tansy, I know this isn't easy for you, and it isn't easy for us either, but you're going to have to be the one to make the final choice."

I stared at Stephen as he spoke, but couldn't hear what he was saying, or was it that I didn't want to listen? "I don't want to make this choice, Samuel should be the one making the decisions, not me."

I felt Stephen's warm hand through my thin shirt. "There are other factors to consider, Tansy. There are many people who are desperately waiting for your decision. You know in your heart what Samuel would do."

I did know what he would do, and I listened for his reassuring words now. I heard nothing but the beeps from the machines which filled the small room.

"Can I have a few moments alone before I let you know?"

"Of course, Tansy. We're all here for you, and whatever you decide to do, know that we support you."

I choked down another lump in my throat, "Thank you, I just hope Tess won't hate me after this. Thank you for being here, Stephen, and thank the others as well."

He nodded, and I knew I was on my own until I heard the steady beating of his heart...

From the Inside Flap

"I've got everything I need, Mom. Are you sure you're going to be okay while I'm gone?"

"Come here." She hurried into my arms, and we held each other close."I'll be fine. I'm going to spend a week at the hot springs where your father and I used to go every year, and then I'll go to my mom's house. How would you feel about living in Idaho?"

"I don't know, but if it's close to Granny, then it should be all right. When are Grandma and Grandpa Whitfield going to be here to pick me up?"

I released her and glanced down the street. "They should be here at any moment. Will you call me as soon as your plane gets into Pennsylvania? "

"Of course, and you'd better call me when you get to that hot spring." She hesitated for a moment before she spoke again. "Will it make you sad?"

"Why would it make me sad, Tess?"

"You know... being there without Daddy? It would make me sad."

She was growing up way too fast and had become acutely aware of my feelings since Samuel's death. "I don't know how I'll feel until I get there. I might not stay, but it might be a way to feel him close to me again. We spent most of our anniversaries there together, and this will be the first time without him. It might be bittersweet, but I'm anxious to go. Here they come now." I gathered my daughter in my arms again and kissed her hard on the cheek. "I love you, Tessy."

She squeezed me, then looked up at me with tears in her eyes. "I love you too, Mom. Tell, Daddy, hello for me."
