From the Author

This book was written to help you learn about the many positive alternatives that are available to you, to help heal depression in yourself or someone you care about.   In the thirty years I have worked as a counselor, I have searched for techniques that can help my clients heal "from the inside out" - strategies that promote empowerment, personal confidence, and resilience.   Happily, there are many such strategies, and they work together beautifully.  For years, I have encouraged my counseling clients to purchase a number of different books relating to these different healing modalities, to help them in their recovery.  I am delighted now to have this book available for my clients and others - pulling all those wonderful strategies into one single book.    I have gathered and integrated "the best of the best" - ideas and techniques that help people conquer these problems.    I have also included an extensive topical bibliography, with additional resources on each topic and strategy discussed in the book.  These were my sources for creating this book, and can provide additional insight and information if more is needed on a given topic. About the Author

Carrie Maxwell Wrigley, LCSW, has been a counselor for over thirty years, specializing in the treatment of depression, anxiety, addiction, grief, trauma, and relationship challenges. She currently works in her private practice, Morning Light Counseling, in Sandy, Utah. Carrie has also been a public health educator for over twenty years, providing education on emotional recovery, and teaching courses on marriage and family enrichment. She has developed several websites to share information on these various topics, including counselinglibrary.org. Carrie received her formal education at the University of Utah, obtaining first a BFA in Theatre, and then returning later for her MSW (Master of Social Work) degree. Carrie has a particular interest in prevention, and is passionate about sharing practical strategies that individuals can use to create and maintain emotional wellness over time, with a strong emphasis on self-help, and building self-efficacy. Carrie also uses her artistic gifts to spread a message of hope, healing, and wellness. Trained as an actor, she is an engaging and dynamic presenter, who uses storytelling and original music to amplify her teaching. She is a prolific songwriter, whose music has been used in school, church, and community settings. Her inspirational and religious music has been heard by thousands, and is now available on her website morninglightmusic.org, and on iTunes, Amazon, and CD Baby. She spent twelve years developing and sharing a Character Education Through Music program for elementary and middle school students, creating fun original music (available at impactmusic4kids.org) to teach values such as responsibility, caring, inclusion, anti-bullying, and community. Carrie also continues to love acting on stage and on film; her acting credits can be found on IMDB.com. Music and acting continue to be an integral and joyful part of her personal "Happiness Toolkit." Carrie has been married for over thirty years to her husband, sweetheart, and business partner, Steve Wrigley. They are the parents of five amazing children; and Carrie is the oldest of seven children. Lessons from her family life permeate this book, and these relationships remain the most central, enduring, and joyful core of her life. Carrie is also sustained by her faith, which is the anchoring foundation for her life and work.
