This is the second book in a two book set. The first book is "Elephants in the Room: Evolution Versus the Message of Scripture." We say: “There are elephants in the room” when people are making small talk but know they are avoiding the big issues. The creation/evolution debate has generated much discussion on both sides. But sometimes the big issues, the elephants, are not part of it. The purpose of this two book set is to coax the elephants out of hiding. In "Elephants in the Room," we watched as 13 elephants lumbered into the room of the Christian faith. We watched as Christ was forced to leave. But there was one elephant left. That’s the topic of the book you are looking at: "One More Elephant: Evolution Versus the Text of Scripture." When this elephant enters the room, a Christian’s reliance on Scripture is often lost. What will you find in this book? "One More Elephant" begins with a chapter on Scripture, in which Scripture describes itself and explains how it wants to be read. The book continues with a primer on “historical criticism,” the method theistic evolutionists must use in the attempt to combine Scripture and evolution. The final three chapters treat the most important theistic evolutionary argument in use today, the ANE argument. These books do not contain arguments from creation science, philosophy, or contemporary apologetics. Using the God’s Word alone, they lay out the basic teachings of the Christian faith. Then, in the words of theologians who want to combine evolution and Christianity, they show how evolution affects the faith. These books were written to help you see the elephants and sort through the issues.Robert Koester is a retired Lutheran minister and a member of the Wisconsin Lutheran Synod. He has served congregations in the United States and Canada and for nineteen years was the Bible study editor at Northwestern Publishing House, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He is the author of several books and numerous Bible studies. He accepts the six 24-hour-day creation as described in Genesis 1 and 2.
