Synopsis
One of history’s greatest unifiers was Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Even in the midst of the wrongs committed against him, he had a vision to make possible the seemingly impossible. His dream was of a united humanity that cared deeply about the content of one’s character because he knew that God created us to live in community. Today we call it a great dream but when he dreamed that dream it was considered nothing more than a pipe dream. As his message began to resonate in the heart of a people hungry for something better than the status quo, that beautiful dream became a blessed reality. Now, though the drumbeat of division grows louder with each passing day, it is possible to achieve unity. It’s with a devoted heart that gives preference to each other that we can overcome the allure of disunity. The Gift of Unity draws us back to our first love, which is Jesus Christ. Only by drawing closer to Him can we achieve unity that endures. This 40-day devotional was written to bring us together, whether that be in families, churches, or communities.
