About the Author

Jackie Nix is an animal scientist turned author/illustrator dedicated to creating agriculturally accurate children's books. Jackie has been in love with farming since she first stepped foot on her neighbor's hog and dairy farm as a child!

Jackie holds M.S. and B.S. degrees in Animal Science and has enjoyed a long and diverse career in agriculture as an animal nutritionist and as an Agriculture Cooperative Extension Agent.

Jackie has also been drawing since she could hold a pencil. She happily spent hours drawing animals, especially horses. While she never pursued a formal education in art, she's been a hobby artist her whole life.

Now Jackie gets to combine her two loves - agriculture science and art to make creative non-fiction books to educate and inspire children of all ages. She hopes to spark a love and appreciation for the STEM associated with modern agriculture. 
Jackie is mother to a grown son two rescue dogs and currently lives in Alabama.
