Synopsis
The second in the delightful series featuring the special events manager of London's Boubles Grand Hotel
Mr Badger wasn't just the Special Event manager at the Boubles Grand Hotel (pronounced Boublay). Because he had been there for so long and knew everyone, as well as just about everything about the hotel, Mr Badger had all sorts of other important responsibilities. Ane one of the most imporant was keeping an eye on Algernon.
For longer than anyone can remember, Algernon has been standing absolutely still in his own special spot at the Boubles Grand Hotel. Everyone is shocked when he disappears. Who would remove a big ape from a glass case in the foyer, and where could they hide him? Can Mr. Badger solve the mystery of the missing ape?

Introduced in Mr. Badger and the Big Surprise (2013), Mr. Badger, prim, proper, and longtime special-events manager for the Boubles Grand Hotel, takes his responsibilities seriously. And that includes Algernon: a large ape who has long stood in a glass case in the lobby, especially popular with visiting children. But one morning Algernon’s gone, leaving an empty case and a mystery. Finding Algernon is of the utmost importance, and with assistant Miss Pims’ help, Mr. Badger is determined to uncover the hows and whys of the disappearance. His search leads him through hotel nooks and crannies and heretofore unknown areas. Though likely to resonate more with returning readers, this second series title (both were first published in Australia in 2010) has droll, quirky appeal, including the bespectacled, dapper badger protagonist, who is an animal among humans (humorously, they seem unperturbed or unaware of Mr. Badger being a badger). The mystery plotline is slight, but its whimsical nature makes for an entertaining chapter book. Somewhat formal, wry prose is balanced by amusing and lively line illustrations.
