Synopsis

Aboriginal land rights, today and always. For over 40 years, NSW Aboriginal people have worked to restore their Country and people after violent colonial dispossession. Land Back brings together voices at the forefront of the movement to share the successes, failures and possible futures of NSW land rights.

This collection addresses a significant gap in our understanding of Aboriginal land rights in Australia. It addresses the policy of self-determination, compensation for loss, a land claims process, support for enterprises and the establishment of a network of land councils. Leading experts share their knowledge on:

  • The land claim process
  • Local Aboriginal land councils
  • Cultural heritage recognition
  • Water rights
  • Economic development

For general readers, academics, activists, and policymakers interested in Aboriginal land rights and social justice in Australia, Land Back is a vital contribution to understanding Aboriginal political history. Edited by Professor Heidi Norman, a leading expert on Aboriginal political history.
