It deals with the challenges of transformation and change within Africa’s current business environment, and shows managers how to build bridges across cultural gaps to ensure that their companies and staff operate at their full potential.
The book provides useful definitions, guidelines and strategies for those newly appointed to management positions, as well as for those who have been involved in management for longer. Much of the information is based on research on leadership conducted by the author in eleven countries across sub-Saharan Africa between 2002 and 2003.
The fundamental aim is to alert managers and leaders to the dangers of ethnocentrism and to the fact that other cultures are as important as their own. About the Author:
SHEPHERD SHONHIWA is the managing director of Easigas (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Shell SA Marketing, which covers South Africa, Botswana, Lesotho, Swaziland and Namibia. He is also a board member of various corporations, and was the first black chairman of the Institute of Directors Southern Africa, from 2003 to 2005. In the past, he was the CEO of Tepco Petroleum (Pty) Ltd and the COO of Times Media Limited, SA. Shepherd is also a published author in service excellence and change management.
