Let them go outside and play! More parents are heeding the advice of specialists who urge them to do just that. By playing outside with friends, kids learn valuable interpersonal and negotiation skills and how to make decisions. Outdoor play teaches about the natural world, fosters creativity, and encourages physical activity.
101 Things For Kids To Do Outside is ideal for parents, teachers, and all those working with youth. This book is ideal for the children who like gaming, TV, movies, the soft couch, and even too many snacks. The kids who believe "there's nothing to do outside" can learn and be encouraged to experience the joy of outdoor play.
Each activity is described in language easy for a 6- to 9-year-old and illustrated with engaging graphics. Younger children may need direction, at least the first time. Large pictures display all the fun to be had. The activities range from 10 minutes to hours and hours of fun. Some require creativity, make-believe or physical exertion but they are all outside. Perfect for rainy days, sunshiny days, even snowy days.
Examples of the 101 activities are:

Dawn Isaac invents new ways to persuade her three young children to go outside, a mission that is chronicled in her popular blog www.littlegreenfingers.com.
There are some really great ideas this book, including some I am going to be using at my upcoming family reunion. (Lisa Day BookTime 2019-05-27)
101 Things For Kids To Do Outside already has my kids making a list for the summer (although there are suggestions for all seasons). I like the bright photographs, the clear instructions, and the variety of ideas... the list really does include 101 things! (Becky Porter Becky's Bookshelf 2019-04-24)
(starred review) Each time you browse this book, you will find something new and fun. Oh, and it gets you and the kids outside and not behind a computer or television screen! Highly recommended! (Katrina Yurenka Youth Services Book Review 2016-07-09)
(review of UK edition) Dawn Isaac, author of 101 Things For Kids To Do Outside correctly identified me as a harassed mother-of-three starring down the barrel of a four (yes, FOUR) week Easter holiday and duly popped a copy of her book in the post. I immediately rolled my eyes upon receiving it. 'Who needs a book to tell them what to do with their kids outside? ... Each activity is explained across one double-page with fabulous photos... The first, fascinating thing to do with this book is to hand it to your children with a pile of post-it notes. By doing this with my 10-year-old son... I discovered that he basically wants to do anything that involves wildlife and getting absolutely filthy... Creativity, maturity, independence and teamwork all activated by one simple suggestion. Activity one of 101 and I was already a convert... I'd recommend reserving the especially messy activities to the end of the day so that kids can step out of their clothes in the garden and head straight to the
bath. After which they will fall into the kind of sleep that only arises out of hours of fresh air... I'd personally suggest each family is given a copy of this book. (Beverly Turner Telegraph 2014-04-14)
(review of UK edition) 101 Things For Kids to Do Outside is a quarter of the price of a single day's theme-park ticket and, as far as I'm concerned, delivers considerably better value for money... Part of the reason I love the book is that I've read a considerable quantity of apparently similar offerings over the past few years and have been amazed at the stupidity of the ideas people are willing to propose for children's outside entertainment... Dawn's tactics, on the other hand, seem devised by someone who isn't sitting in an office, who has actually been out in a garden watching what children genuinely enjoy. (Emma Townshend Independent 2014-03-14)
While the cover art is adorable, the photos inside are stunning! This book is full of creative, easy, and original ideas that your kids will adore. (MaryAnne Mama Smiles Blog 2016-04-21)
Great gift for any child... Would also be resourceful to any parent, teacher or caregivers... Plenty of fun ideas not only for children, but for families to enjoy together. And the most important thing -- with 101 Things For Kids To Do Outside, your kids will never be bored again. (Lily Zunic Craft, Learn and Play Blog 2016-04-18)
Ideal for parents or anyone working with youth, it contains activities described in language easy for a 6- to 9-year-old and is illustrated with engaging graphics. Large pictures display all the fun to be had. Activities range from 10 minutes to hours and hours of fun. (Calgary Sun 2016-04-02)
The hands-on guide, 101 Things for Kids to Do Outside, gives you more than enough activities, games and projects to get your children or students moving and learning in the great outdoors. Colorful illustrations and photographs combine with detailed and easy to follow instructions in order to spark lots of outdoor exploration... This book is great for parents and educators, but also for young people ages 5-12 to lead their own explorations. (Raine Sillito Green Teacher 2016-09-01)
