Synopsis
The little bird is hatching! Everyone is rushing to see the main event. This is not to be missed — everyone’s buzzing about it! With cameras in tow, various animals hop into cars, motorcycles, wagon trailers — anything that will get them there in time to see the event unfold. Finally, with the crowd gathered ‘round, a crack appears in the eggshell and out comes . . . well, it’s not quite what they expected. The disappointed crowd complains and sulks out. Then the hatchling reveals his little trick to readers. He has outsmarted the crowd! And for good reason, he thinks: you can’t even hatch in peace these days. This funny, surprising, and lightly satirical early picture book captures the hype of a highly anticipated event. About the Author
The author and illustrator of Windblown and The Race, Édouard Manceau began studying fine arts at an early age. He often works in paper collage, bringing his friendly characters to life with style and humor. He lives in Vendee, France.

PreS-Gr 3—Animals arrive by car, by bus, and by motorcycle, with cameras in hand, to see a little bird hatch. They gather around eagerly, and then—a pig pops out of the egg. Rather than being impressed by this unexpected turn of events, the audience walks away in disappointment. The pig removes its costume to reveal a little bird who just wanted to hatch in peace. The collage artwork is engaging, depicting a variety of expressive animals and vehicles in bright colors. Young children may not understand or appreciate the humor of a hatchling thwarting the paparazzi, though parents will.
