Written by veteran game designers Alessio Cavatore and Rick Priestley, "Bolt Action" provides all the rules needed to bring the great battles of World War II to your tabletop. Using miniature soldiers, tanks and terrain, you can fight battles in the shattered towns of occupied France, the barren deserts of North Africa, and even the sweltering jungles of the Pacific. Players get to decide which of the major or minor World War II powers they would like to represent, and then construct their armies from the lists provided. Army options are almost limitless, allowing you to build the kind of army that most appeals to your style of play, from heavily armored tank forces to lightly armed, but highly skilled. The choice is yours. Created as a joint project between Warlord Games, the premiere historical miniatures company, and Osprey Publishing, the leading independent military history publisher, "Bolt Action" is sure to be the most popular new wargame on the market.

Having received a review copy of Bolt Action courtesy of Osprey while writing this article, I can confirm it has all of the high production values wargamers have come to expect. The volume is colour throughout with diagrams to explain the mechanisms, plates from Osprey books and top notch painted Warlord figures on diorama-type photos. The WWll rules market is a tough one to crack and is currently dominated by Flames of war, a ruleset geared for tournament play with 15mm miniatures. Bolt Action is therefore taking on the tournament rules market, albeit with rules geared for 28mm figures and smaller forces than seen in a typlical FOW game. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. Bolt Action will be published in September and is now being demonstrated by Warlord teams at shows across the country so my recommendation is that you give it a spin and try before you buy. --Miniature Wargames
This full colour, 216-page, hardback book is beautifully produced and is a joy to own - most highly recommended. --militarymodelling.com
This sleek, elegant, and simple ruleset is sure to take its place in the historical wargaming community, as it provides a tournament-grade system in a scale not yet seen standardized. --gametrademagazine.com
[...] a very well written, beautifully presented and highly recommended set of wargame rules for the World War Two period. --Airfix Model World
