About the Author

Katie Essam's passion for textiles began when she graduated from the University of Hertfordshire with a BA Hons in Contemporary Applied Art. She has taught herself freehand machine embroidery, appliqué and many other textile techniques, combining them to make original framed, mixed media textile art pieces, inspired by the beauty in everyday objects and scenes.

She especially loves doing commissions, turning a special image or personal photograph of family, pets or houses, into an original, tailor-made piece of textile art.

Katie also runs a variety of workshops from her studio, teaching one-on-one or in small groups the techniques she use to make her textile art.
